Mauricio Macri spoke out after the Clean Sheet failure: "The government is solely responsible."

Mauricio Macri spoke out after the Clean Sheet failure: "The government is solely responsible."

Following the failure of the Clean Record bill by one vote in the Senate, and in the midst of the electoral campaign in the city, Mauricio Macri harshly criticized Javier Milei in a television interview. There, the former president asserted that "the government is solely responsible" for the law's failure to pass this Wednesday. He added: "They defrauded millions of Argentines."

"It's a sad day for the Republic. Today we have once again let down millions of Argentines. This government has let down millions of Argentines ' hopes, their dreams of moving toward a normal society where the corrupt cannot participate in politics, where there are clear rules of the game," Macri said Thursday.

Macri, who was accompanied during the interview by Silvia Lospennato , his party's legislative candidate for the city council in the May 18 elections, also addressed Milei's criticism of his party , which she made this Thursday morning during the Latam Economic Forum. "The PRO party bears no responsibility," Macri responded on A24.

"It failed due to incompetence or because they felt this wouldn't work for some other reason, which we don't know," the president of the yellow party said about the vote on the law, adding: "On social media, they were saying Cristina for Karina, but we can't verify it."

He later returned to that issue, stating that "if the government wanted to put the final nail in Cristina Kirchner's coffin, it would have done so yesterday (with Wednesday's vote)."

Macri also complained about Milei's own statements, who in another interview on Tuesday had asserted that the conditions for the law's approval were in place and that the bill was his. "The President said this would be passed... You took ownership of the law; you have to have the capacity to make it a reality . It's difficult to be President; I was there, but you have to be responsible," he said about the role of the head of state. Along these lines, he also recalled that Guillermo Francos had guaranteed the votes "72 hours ago."

"You can't go to vote and throw away the work of millions of Argentinians over eight years," he said, referring to the negative votes of missionaries Sonia Rojas Decut and Carlos Arce .

Already entering the City campaign, the former president highlighted the role of Silvia Lospennato and asserted that the candidate fought alone for the Law "when they were seen as ridiculous" and reproached: "She almost fell in the first round because they had gone to eat cold cuts."

Mauricio Macri criticized Milei for "mistakenly mistaking the opponent."

Returning to the strong differences with the President, Macri criticized Milei for "mistaking the adversary," referring to the attacks the Libertarian has launched against the yellow party. And looking ahead to the 2018 elections, he stated: "Unfortunately, with this division, (Leandro) Santoro has a better chance of winning than we do."

He explained that this situation is also due to the attacks his party is receiving from the national ruling party and from Horacio Rodríguez Larreta , who represented the PRO party as mayor of the city but is currently running on his own ticket in the legislative elections.

"We're facing a double attack, from the libertarians on one side and Larreta on the other. Many people believe he's a PRO candidate, but he isn't, because he's decided to confront PRO," he said in the interview this Thursday.

"The collapse of Ficha Limpia (Clean File) hampered the dialogue, because we were expecting an apology for the project's failure, and instead, the violence was directed at Silvia Lospennato and the PRO party," Macri charged.
